The hand/finger exerciser unit that has an independent spring for each finger seems like a good idea, useful gadget for the beginner.

What are your opinions--is this just another item made to sell?

I almost bought one of those, but i decided to use a soft rubber ball instead... i dont know if it is the same thing but its a lot cheaper.

mmm, I never had one of those but I think you should be very careful. Tendency is to overdo it. I know a guy who got problems with his hands after using such an exerciser (but I don't know how much he worked out on it .......).

just a thought ....

I guess weīre talking about that "Gripmaster" device here. Actually, I am using one of those when I am travelling. I use the one with the lightest tension.
Itīs not about gaining strength / muscles. I like to get it out of my pocket whenever I have the opportunity and ainīt got a guitar with me, and I do some synchronisation-exercises.
Itīs just a neat device to work on the independence of the left hand fingers, plus it might help you to gain strength for the left hand.
But Guni is right, too... donīt overdo it, donīt hurt yourself, start out slowly and do it only for a few minutes, and it might not be a very essential tool... just something I found one day and I just checked it out.
Itīs just ONE thing to include into your practising, because the motions and exercises you do on that thing are still different from actual playing
As I said, I only use it if I ainīt got a guitar with me, like when I am on a long train-ride or something...
Warm regards
