Is there a certain spot to tapp a fret at to make that tapping kinda scream because when i do it it just sounds like a normal note and it doesnt like scream. Also how hard exactly should i be tapping it seems all complicated right now....

Do you mean tapped harmonics or regular tapping?

With tapping, your aim should be to get the tapped note to sound like the other notes, so it sounds nice and fluid. Just think of it as legato involving your right hand too. In order to do this though, you'll need to tap pretty hard.

With tapped harmonics, you need to tap directly over the fretwire (i.e. in the same place you would have your fretting hand if you were playing a natural harmonic). From my own experience, you need to tap fairly hard in order to get the string moving and take your finger off lightly to get the harmonic going.

Hey Dj E, im not too sure what you´re trying to ask. Remember by tapping we mean the use of your pick hand fingers on the fretboard.
Please try to rephrase your question so you can get the info ya need.

peace!

Just tap right on the fret wire, 12 frets above the note you're fretting with your left hand. That's your loudest harmonic.

Well on a solo I am trying to do it has a 7 but tapped on the 14th but that isn't exactly 12 frets so in that case how would i get the harmonic out of that thanks.

The one 12 frets above the note you're playing is the loudest, but not the only one. There's a good harmonic where you mentioned. Just tap with your fingertip right on the fret wire and let it immediately bounce off the string, straight up, so you don't mute the harmonic once you've produced it. It's not like regular tapping where you tap, let the note sound, then pull off. With tapped harmonics you just bounce your finger off the fret. Sort of like a hammer hitting a nail, the hammer rebounds off the nail head immediately, it doesn't stay in contact with it for more than a split second.

Hope that helps :D

7th fret to 14th fret is the same gap as the open string to the 7th fret (if you were doing a natural harmonic) so it definately works for producing harmonics. It just wont come with as much ease as a 12 fret gap because that is the exact half way point and i'm sure theres some complicated physics that i don't know explaining it.

Anyway, using plenty of gain with this will certainly help (as with any harmonics) but its just a question of practice - theres no special 'trick' to it: its simply a matter of fretting the note with your left hand and tapping the fretwire with your right.

An advantage of tapped harmonics is that you can add vibrato with your left hand once you've tapped the note, try it!
