fingerpicking, right wrist hurts

I learned kansas's dust in the wind through the verse (jus thave t olearn the hcorus now), but After i do the verse my wrist like locks up, and gstarts to hurt. Is this normal, and will fingerpicking a lot help build this up?

do you take lessons? were you instructed on how to correctly hold the guitar, how to pick correctly? i don't know a lot but i know it would be a lot more beneficial to you if you played in front of someone so they could correct any problems they see. my wrist never "locked up" when i started finger picking. :-\

Yes I was instructed on how to do it. My friend said his wrist hurt a lot when he first started too, though so i think it may be normal.
