Hi hi hi.

I signed up about 3 months ago when I started playing as this was the only decent guitar forum I could find. I'm sure you'll all be pleased to know that I'm getting along quite well and for these first three months I couldn't learn enough quick enough. It's great.

Anyway I just wanted some advice on a fretting technique.

I took some bits off the chorus of 'I believe in a thing called love' by The Darkness just as an example to explain what I mean. It goes like this..

A -------0---------0-2-4-2--------
E -0-2-4---4-0-2-4----------------

So my question is, would the best technique by to slide up and down and fret like that, or to assign one finger to each fret so that my hand never moved? I know which one looks better :D but it's about how it sounds. Any advice appreicated.

Apologies also for the newness of my question, but I am still quite new and would rather use the 'right' technique from the start, if there is such a thing as a 'right' technique.

Thanks.

Hi hi hi,- hi ;)
I would, definately recommend position playing - that is, one finger per fret.
It takes some time to get all the fingers working properly but, it's worth while in the long run.

-best,
Mike

Use your number one finger for fret number 2 and number three finger for fret number 4 and for the 0 fret use your nut.

i just wouldn't play the open a string. i'd take the a onthe low e string 5th fret.
depending on what's coming after and before it.
