Unwanted noises when picking

Recently i've been noticing that when i pick fast my fingers that are holding the pick get too close to the point of the pick making them hit other strings. I'd like to know how far, or how close to the point of the pick you hold it... Thanks in advance...

as close as possible and as far away as necessary.
i'd say there is about 2-3mm sticking out to pick the strings.
haven't measured it though.
hold it as close to the tip as possible to get the most amount of control over it. if you experience bad noises, like you did, let the pick stick out of the hand a bit more.
