I learned sweep picking a while back, while it sounds fine most of the time when I play clean, when I play a 5 string sweep I get unwanted sound coming from lifting your fingers when you switch strings. Is there a good way to "mute" it somehow? I don't have a problem with synchornizing just the unwanted noise when I release a fretted string makes the sweep really sloppy. Thx :)

hey bt,
i mute the upper strings with the left hand.
- let the fingers lay more flat on the stings and dont play them to pointy from on top (don't know how to describe it better).
the lower strings i mute with the palm of my right hand.
that da*n sweeps need so much attention when practicing. bast*rds. ;-)

I kinda just follow the sweep of my right hand using the fatty part of my palm (between my thumb and my wrist) to deaden each string as it is played, on the way back up I lean my fingers back a little so that each string which is released is deadened by the finger fretting the string above.
Hope this helps man

The thing is to balance the muting process between the left and the right hand evenly...
I like my action to fairly low, but not THAAAAAT low...so when I sweep, i can barely lift my left hand finger and instantly deaden the note, 'cause practically that kills the ringing process of the string...as my right hand moves onto the next string, my palm follows, making sure there's no unwanted noise or strings ringing...
