Hi, I have a Marshall Valvestate VS65R, it has two channels with the following....

Clean:

Vol, Bass, Mid, Treb (and a little button called tone shift)

OD:

Vol, Gain, Bass, Mid, Treb.

It also has an independant Reverb knob that affects both channels....

I would like to know some good amp settings for playing the following bands to get their sound....

1. Metallica (preferably James AND Kirk)
2. GnR (again, preferably slash and izzy)
3. Green Day
4. RHCP - (john frusciante)
5. Bon Jovi - (ritchie sambora)

any help on those would be great... thanks!

Metallica uses Scooped mids to get ther tone I am not sure you can scoop it enough with the tone controls on your amp to get there. Try treble full up bass full up and mids off, start there and tweak it . Oh, I forgot full gain, you might even want your ds-1 on for this.

Slash likes the neck pickup I think you could get close with the same setup as above but put the bass and treb about 6 and mids on about 3 -5.

I don't have one of these amps but this is how I remember getting a tone out of a regular (Tube) marshall.

We can give you ballpark advice on this but without your amp and guitar we are only guessing. You are going to have to use your ear to try to get these to your satisfaction. Besides I bet even if I was there and set it up for what I though player X sounded like you would think it needed to be set differently.
I suggest you wprk on trying to find YOUR sound using this equipment and not worry about trying to sound like player X.

Try to get a tone that makes you smile and inspired. You will play better if you do.
