Juz wondering kind of strings, brand wise do you guys use?
I've been using D'Addario and Elixir lately. I want to try some of the other brands that are available. What do you guys recommand?

IŽm using DŽAddario XL 120 ( 009-042, also I occasionally use hybrid sets such as 009-011-016-026-036-046 )
They IMHO have the best durability and sound great. Also, havenŽt had a pack with a bent string yet, have had those occasionally when I was still using strings by other manufacturers.

Tried the Elixier strings last year, a distributor sent me a few packs to check out. I dunno, they didnŽt exactly "rock my world", so I went back to DŽAddarios.

GHS Boomers Dynamite Alloy 10-46. I find these are the most consistant in that I don't need to tweak my intonation between every set. They also sound very good.

Fender Nickel plated steel Super Bullets, 10-46 (for a Strat bridge)

They retain some warmth with the Nickel plating, but stand up well in live performance. Tuning is very stable when the strings are stretched properly.

For shredding type guitars with a Floyd Rose, GHS always treated me well, 10-46 or 11-58. I used "Progressives" but I don't know if that type is still available.

My hands and picking style don't allow 9's...

I use the bullets on my wilkensen equipped guitars.

It feels kinda funny to be asking this question since I'm using 9 - 46 but what's a hybrid set?

WHat eric is talking about is a Light top with heavy bottom if you look at the string gauges he has posted it will make sense.

009-011-016-026-036-046

10- 13-17-26-36-46 are normal 10's
I havent used 9's in so long I am not sure but I think
9-11-16-22-32-42 are normal 9's
the hybrid set he is referring to is the top strings from a 9 set and the bottom strings from a 10 set.

It sounds like you are using them also.

What's up?

I know quite a few of you out there are professional musicians; do any of you use this or similiar kind of products to prolong ur string life?

Stringlife (http://www.stringlife.com/coated.html) This particular brand was reviewed by Guitar World.

GHS Fastfret

I'm trying to find ways to prolong my string life so that I don't have to change strings as often and more importantly cut down on buying new strings regularly.

Your strings are going to wear out from beig flattened by the frets and they are going to break, there is nothing you can do to prevent this. You can clean thes strings after everytime you play which will make them sound better until they are damaged nby the frets or break. You can use isopropyl alcohol and a cloth.

I prefer Fast-fret. When you're done playing, wipe the strings down. Or if you forget, wipe them down before you start playing again. I use the little cloth to wipe the entire string circumference. It picks up a lot of grime!

Alcohol tends to dry out rosewood guitar necks and can damage the wood. Be careful if you use it! It also leaves the strings really, really clean. I have trouble doing legato stuff if I use alcohol, but that's just the way my hands (and skin oils) work...

Different folks require different methods.

There are guitar neck conditioners you can use to keep the fretboard oiled (only need it once year or so). I use Guitar Honey, which was recommended by a local luthier.

i'm now on 3 brands for all my guitars- GHS, PRS & Dean Markley

the GHS is what i keep coming back to everytime i keep trying other string brands. they feel just right for shredding & grinding, they last as long as the Blue Steels & they are not even cryogenic types.

the Dean Markley Signature series is what i have in my 7string these feel very comfortable especially for the bottom few strings.

my PRS came with a set of PRS strings and they feel light enough for fast stuff & IMO, very suitable for guitars with a fat neck. as such i have 'em in my Gibson too.

how many of you here play the .0095 set? i currently have a set in my S540 (PRS brand) & they feel unique- shredability of a .009 & bendability of a .010

What ? PRS have their own strings now ?
Wow, didnŽt knwo that.
I always used D `Addarios when I was still playing a PRS... they used those as a reference when they designed their guitars.

But hey, who knows who actually makes those PRS strings... :)

Never knew there's .0095 avalible...Is PRS the only brand that makes them? Every body seems to me making all kinds of stuff...its probably only a matter of time b4 Ibanez comes up with their own set of strings.

I was surfing the PRS website, I noted that they actually call their pickups, treble and bass pickups rather than neck and bridge. They almost caught me there, cuz for a sec i thought that they actually make bass pickups.

d'addario is also offering the .0095 set, i prefer the PRS brand as the former feels stiff to me...
