Hey I'm new and I was trying to play the reaper by steve vai. Here is the tab
http://www.powertabs.net/pta.php?page=song,15243 Anyways I notice that on his solos he manages to finger a 22 on the fretboard very fast in his solos quite frequently. The tab doesn't seem to be tuned up, and it doesn't show a bend. So does he have a special guitar with 22 frets or is there some trick, or what?

I have an Ibenez with 24 frets. Vai's Jem has 24 Frets. It is pretty common to have 24 Frets on a guitar. My Strat has 22 frets ...

Yeah, 22 fret guitars are most common, but jems and various other guitars have 24. I think most strats have 22 nowadays, but some models have 21. Don't get bummed out about it though, Yngwie Malmsteen's strats have 21 frets so it is not a shredder neccesity! As you say, you may be able to duplicate it with a half step bend, but if its played fast and visited often it might be quite tricky. The harmonic at the 5th fret of a string will prodice the same sound as the 24th fret also.
