Do any of you play guitar with a cello or violin bow (not E-bow) like Page, or the guy from Sigur Ros?

I have decided to buy a bow and experiment with it. I am mainly interested in getting the atmospheric type drones like Sigur Ros.

Just wondering if any of you play with a bow and have some tips.

Only time I ever messed with a bowed instrument my dad thought I was killing the cat.

You might can find a site on it cause i was interested in it too but i heard it was alot of trouble. For example Page set his guitar up so he could use a bow, i think he had a special bridge put on and the action rasied not to mention all the bows he went through and then you hafta rosin the thing. Keep me updated on how it goes though cause i have always wanted to experiment too just havnt had the spare money to invest in a bow.

I have a bow that I use on guitar, the hardest thing is to try and stop all random nasty harmonics from bowing with the wrong pressure, speed and location. It's worth the effort though if you like that kind of sound. I think the only advice I can give is to experiment with it, all the guitars I have used it with have reacted very differently.

I use a bow sometimes and was inspired by Sigur Ros. For me to get that ghostly like sound I have to use a lot of reverb. Delay also sounds nice.

The guy from Sigur Ros uses a cello bow, but all I have is a violin bow. I still get it to work though. Just don't give too much pressure and find the spots on your guitar that make the best sound. I do it on my strat and can't afford to have a guitar specially set up for it. I usually just play single notes or intervals on the lower two strings and then full chords.
