I've looked at how many folks have joined this forum in the past few months vs how many have posted, and looked at how many lurkers there are (postings views vs postings). Far more people are apparently watching than participating. Of course that's great, but...

I'd like to invite folks who have experiences, or would like to have experiences, to share their thoughts and ideas here. NO ONE can ask more basic questions than I do (there's your challenge), so there's no reason to be concerned about that. It doesn't mean you have to jack your jaws as much as I do (and say so little).

It would help me to hear from others who DON'T have 30 years' experience--who are as new starting out as I am. I'd really like to hear what others have to say about any of the topics here (in Learn, especially).

This forum is a conversation--and thanks to everyone who has made it possible--so please converse!

I certainly dont have 30 years experience. About 4 years ago i was in the same position as you so i think i can somewhat relate.
I have to learn new stuff everyday. The reason i dont ask questions around here is that english isnt my mother language (even though i have to speak english to my teacher) so its a little harder for me.

english isnt my mother language

Really? I wouldn't have noticed. Well, my mother tongue isn't English either :D What's yours if I may ask?

But I think this is the great thing about such a forum. It kinda breaks down the barrier of nationality and languages. We are all here for one reason..... and this is really damn cool. It really doesn't matter if there are any kind of grammar mistakes in the posts..... (I know I make 'em .....)

Yeah, Bongo, it would be nice if more people would participate but for about 2 months of service we are doing quite well (many thanks to you 2 guys :D ) and our memberbase is constantly growing. I also think that the quality of threads so far is exceptional and this makes me really feel comfortable for the future.
Cheers,

Guni

Gunharth,
I agree that the quality of the threads posted here is just great. Folks who visit this place do breathe music.
So have we really spoken english all this while? :) It's not my native language too.

Ultra mega best regards,
Andrew

Yes! Let's get the language thing out of the way!! At congaplace.com there seems to be a greater number of non-English speaking folks (natively), and from time to time they simply write in their native (or favorite) language. It's a problem for me when folks write in Spanish or French, but I think that's MY problem, not theirs! If I'm really interested, it gets me to do a little bit of work, and I learn something, too.

Also, I want to say that I don't feel quantity of posts (versus quality) is a big important thing, and I agree, this forum has really taken off--it's a huge success. I simply want to encourage folks to share even (especially) if they're just starting out.

I've been playing music around 40 plus years.
Self taught, learned things from other self taught players.
I know my scales fairly well I think. Never been kicked out of a band yet.

But Theory is new to me.
I've always lived in the country and lessons out here isn't a common feature.

I hang around a Recording bbs and listen to the guys in Europe talk about all kinds of stuff, how to figure this out and do that and all the things that I've always wondered about. Now they are all back in the conservatorys furthering their education.

I just have a need to know this stuff and ran a search on google and found this site.
I hope the young people who have all this information at their fingertips realize just what is available to them. There was nothing like this when I was growing up. Over the years I've noticed the difference in people with some kind of education in music as opposed to those who don't.
Knowing what the basic principle of music is just isn't enough. Anyone can play chords and put out cover songs. It's knowing and understanding what makes these song work that the people who have some knowledge of theory excel over us who don't.

It's forums like this that are priceless.
