Combining Scales...

Lately I have been searching around the web looking for a site that could give me sufficent info on how to combine scales. I have not found many, and those few that I have found either costs money or just shows me (for example) a combined major and blues scale or something like that, but does not tell me or show me how to combine any scales on my own.

I became intrigued by this listening to the Mr. Crowley solos (theres 2 in that song as you probably know) and thinking to myself that all those notes that he plays which sound like they all fit together in one monsterous scale cannot possibly be one huge scale with so many notes nor modes.

I have just thrown some major and pentatonic scales together, and they sound okay, but just not what it should sound like. My question is, can anybody show me how to combine scales correctly and/or what scales fit together and sound good for melodic, shredding, voodo blues, or anything of the sort. Thanks for listening...

Simple answer would be to just combine them yourself, and if it sounds good it is good. :)

Its really hard for me to say... I know that in the Mr crowley solo there a few runs in chromatic if i remember it well.. But anyway, i guess you know your scales. Just right them down, see the difference and the similiarity between them. See if it would fit in another key withtout having too much outside notes, but sometimes outside notes make your solos sound cooler. Compare them. Always relate to the main riff that is backing the solo. When you know the progression, its easier to find what scales, what key and most of the time you have more than one choice and remember that outside notes can add a special touch to your solos.

I don't know what else to say, play the thing and see if it fits. That's how i learned, but thats why i have difficulty explaining all this.
