When I recently saw Satch's cool legato lines, I noticed he damped the strings whit his right hand fingers to avoid unwanted string noise. Could someone give me the exact technique behind this?
Thx

Hi pablo.
Just reach over your left hand with your right hand, and grab the neck over the first frets, just like you would if you'd want to shake a hand. Lightly rest the right hand there to mute all six strings. Then with your left hand play all the legato you want, and you'll avoid all unwanted noises this way.
Yeah, he does this on "The Power Cosmic" and it's certainly a crowd pleaser...lol. In "The Power Cosmic" though he just taps the arpeggios with his left hand while his right hand mutes the strings becuz if he was to do this without his right hand muting the strings. Every time he would tap you would hear alot of noise from the strings ringing open. This is one of the main concepts behind touch tapping technique. That is they dampen their string stoo but instead of using one of their hands which could be used to help play more technical compositions, they use tissue paper, cloth rags, and actual string dampeners themselves. I have a small piece of guitar polishing cloth that I put under the strings when I feel like attempting to play some touch tapping (I'm not very good at it...lol, but I try).

thx a lot. he also mutes the strings with his right hand when playing legato licks at a normal way(not the mystical potatoe way) what's this technique??
Well if he mutes the strings with his right hand while he playing regular legato licks with his left hand then it's still pretty much the same technique. He's tapping with one finger and doing the pull-off and hammer-ons on the same string. It's the same technique.
