Hey this is my first song I wrote with my drummer. We tried out for the musical talent show at my school with this song, but didn't make it. Tell me what you guys think.

That is really cool! Good job... So if you did not make it with that what the heck kind of acts did make it? Who was deciding who could be in the show?

A lot of dancers, singers, and more "pop" bands. I think we had the only original song, everyone else did covers. That might be why we didn't get in. I think they wanted stuff people knew and would want to listen to. Most people probably wouldn't like our song.
The music teachers judged, but they were pretty biased. They have kids that they like and dislike (one of them dislikes me). This kid who is first chair for guitar in jazz band (I'm second chair) is in 3 acts (about 25 total).
I liked that alot !!
I have to agree with Mateo, you'll need more than the two of you to keep most people interested. I'd look for a bass player first. Then, if you want to add vocals or another melody instrument, (violin struck me for this stuff - ?) if you want to keep it instrumental - good stuff !
Write 9 or 10 more of these and let me know where I can get the cd.
Keep it up !
-best,
Mike

Thanks guys.
Yeah we are probably going to stay instrumental for now because teenage singers aren't very good. Plus I prefer no singing anyway.

Yea! Stick with instrumentals!! You have a nack for it. I would get a bass player and a keyboard player though to fill it out. I could hear some really cool bass and keyboard parts in there while I was listening (in my head  ).
Doesn't matter though you guys are obviously really good. I think you got ripped of by your school. You have some really good talent there and they should have let you play.
It is true though that instrumental music is not respected as much in the pop culture but that is ok...I think for most instrumental musicians the feeling is mutual!! Look at Steve Vai. He does vocal stuff but he is mainly an instrumental musician. He obviously resents that his stuff doesn't get played more on the radio but he knows he is creating stuff that will last. 20 years from now people will still be listening to "Passion and Warfare" and thinking it is amazing. You can't say that about all the pop junk that is being put out there today.
Keep it up! Play the music that is in your heart. You guys are great!! I whish I had a tenth your abilities when I was your age...

The good thing about instrumental music is that the song has to be really good, as you're not being distracted by lyrics.

Nice song Unhorizon!
Like everybody else, I'd suggest you get a bassist. Or if you like, a keyboardist too. That would make your song sounds better. Good luck!

I really enjoyed your composition. The recording was clipping and causing some distraction, so you might want to be careful about that in the future. I agree with the others, a bassist would add greatly to the sound, maybe a keyboard too. I think your school missed out on something special, their loss...

I don't know why I'm second chair. The kid whose first chair is better than me at playing jazz.
