I think I finally figured out what really works for gaining alternate picking speed(for me anyway). After reading one of EricV's articles, I think I finally found out what my problem was. I needed to work on my single string picking(tremelo picking). For the last week or so, I have been starting very slow and working my way up making sure I am playing EXACTLY in time with the metronome. Also keeping my picking hand as relaxed as possible. I really haven't gained any speed yet, but my picking hand is much more relaxed!! It's a huge difference!! I would suggest this to anyone stuck on a picking plateau!
