I have realy been stuck with a certin style that I dont like the way it sounds and I tried doing stuff like listining to different types of music but I was wondering is thier any books or such on things of how to develope a certin feel or style. I'm realy into fusion and John Petruccis solo album. Any help would be much apreciated. Sorry if I posted this in the wrong spot I didnt know where it would fit. Thanks much

There are many books out there that deal with the technical part of a certain style, but as far as feel and style goes... that's pretty much you. Listening to different people sure helps but not just listening while you cook or something (even though that kid of listening is also very helpful) but REALLY listening, and figuring out parts. Trascribing your favorite solos and/or learning them note by note will also help you a lot.
Stick with it, eventually you'll find a sound you'll like.

god damn, i dont know how many times my sound has changed, no doubt you'll find it soon, if you just listen to how they play then try and grab a few licks of theirs, should all go smoothly. i was a malmsteen sounding guy, with my fast runs and my sweeps, but not i have changed to a vai sound, so much more fluent with little tapping licks in there.

this may sound weird, but when i'm trying to get my own sound i think of picture or a certain feeling and think of that when creating my own sound and songs. That way the music is from me (my own style), when i'm with a band i do the same thing but consider the bands ideas for the sound or song and this way is quicker for me 'cause it's straight from me
