does anybody own a copy of greg howe: hot rock licks? if so, i have a question to put to you!
the introduction solo is really impressive and blew me away when i first heard it. however, im slowly working on transcribing and playing it and wondered if anybody had a transcription or knows how to play it?somebody out there must be able to play it, and there is an Aminor etude at the beginning just after jazz chord when the credits disapear which has me stumped!
anyone please help before i become a vhs remote control?

Have you checked Powertab, Poweratb Central, or Francesco Fareri's site (Fra has a lot of Howe tabs)?

I know what you're talking about...it's some kind of triplet-based type of etude in Am...kinda nice, it implies lots of 2 string ideas and covers a lot of different arpeggio shapes...but sadly, i don't know about any transcription for that particular solo...

Yeah, I liked that solo as well. As much as a I love Gregs stuff, I didn't like the video at all. I think he said himself that he hated it, he wanted a few months to come up with some really good stuff for it but the guys at REH wanted it done right away.

im currently trying to transcribe the solo, if i actually manage it ill ptb it onto here and you guys can pick it to pieces, might be a gud way to get it nice and accurate.the first positive step towards this was definitely recording the solo off the vhs and putting it into the amazing slowdowner. yeah its cheating but it makes a much better transcription!:D dont get too exited bout the ptb ive put on its just three bars to try and fathom what goes on in the etude i was stressing over. i know its wrong, but i cant fill all of the notes in the triplets without obscurring the lowest note which has a clear pattern in the recording.in a way, what i have tabbed sounds right, even tho it plays badly and isnt what he appears to be doing on the video!

the .ptb file doesn't work for me. I only hear the 'click' track. My other .ptb files are working fine.

I found the problem - you need to click on the "guitar in" tab and check the checkbox to include "guitar I" in the file, or there's no sound.

hokay! i have a first draft if anybody would like it. by the way im sorry for obsessing so much over one thing but itll be worth it as nobody has tabed this yet! heres the whole etude as my ears here it. my main criticism of it is that in the recording the bass (d string) moves in single note patterns and mine doesnt do this as cleanly. its acase of juggling notes around until it fits methinks.

I will have to look through my old backup CDs tonight... I am pretty sure I have a ptb of the complete intro... and even if I donīt find that file, I think I printed it out back then and maybe I can scan just the part that is relevant for you...

hey thats really cool, cheers! im a bit new to ibreathe and was wanderin how to ask you personally if you knew as your article and tabbed licks are really the best way to see what greg does. i like that solo on the video cos its greg howe with it all hangin out, no backing or nuthin just raw and showcases most of his early techniques. i think ,tho im not sure, that gregs style is a bit looseer and more jazzy than just straight 16ths these days
