hi. i use the muting technique where you overshoot your left hand playing fingers to mute the adjacent strings. for example, if i play the b-string, my left hand index finger mutes the g string with the tip while muting the e string with the underside. my problem is, how can you play open strings using this muting technique?

i realize that everybody from vai to satch to EricV to Troy Stetina uses this technique of muting. it also happens to be the most comfortable way to mute for me but i can't play and make use of open strings. how do i get rid of this problem?

thanks a bunch.

Is that mean you make your fingers kind of flat to mute the adjacent stings? Oh I see...
For open string (ringing?...if that what you mean), lift a bit of your fingers and use the very tip of your finger and not flat.. (picture as pointing)
