Just wondering if anyone has a list of cool mnemonics &/or vocables for rhythmic work? You know, stuff like "Ta de da" or "tri-pe-lette" to get the hang of triplets; "don't mess it up" for 2 against 3 polyrhythms; and that sort of thing...?
For reference, I keep running into a wall when I hit subdivisions of 7 (I can play them in an academic way, but it lacks "groove", which to my mind is paramount). Also, in utilizing odd divisions against standard 4s (for example) - like 5:4 - it sometimes helps (me, at least) to have mastered it with simple hand percussion first.
Thanx in advance!
