Hi, I have a muting problem, can anyone help? I’m learning Richie Sambora’s solo from ‘Always’ and at the end of the solo he bends up the 14th fret 1st string a whole tone, then releases the bend and pulls off to the 12th fret first string – nothing complex there. However when I bend up the 14th fret and then release it, my fretting finger comes into contact with the open ‘G’ string and it sounds upon releasing the bend making a horrible and unwanted clash with the F# and G# from the 1st string notes.
I’ve tried muting with my R.H but it doesn’t help – quite hard to mute as low as the ‘G’ string anyway, I find. Also I notice that Satch and Vai often angle their L.H. index finger across the higher (as in thinner) strings to mute them but this doesn’t help as I need to use that finger for the pull off to the 12th fret. What should I do to stop it sounding and ruining the solo!? Any ideas, please?
Sorry if I’ve made it sound complex, cuz it’s not meant to be!
Cheers,
Jon
