What instrumentals can you recommend to play on acoustic? I mean, music in the style of Mood For A Day (Yes), Horizons (Genesis), Dee (Randy Rhodes), etc.

I don't want pieces for beginners, but also not crazy technical stuff (Justin King...)
I prefer rock-oriented pieces, not jazz arrangements from the likes of Joe Pass.

Thanks

Joe Satriani - Baroque
Eric Johnson - Song For Life
Greg Howe - The Portrait and Desiderata
Steve Morse- Ghostwind ( actually not an acoustic solo piece, but it works amazingly well if you arrange it for one acoustic guitar ), Highland Wedding ( ditto ), Modoc, Point COunterpoint ( tough ), Slices Of Time, Foreign Exchange, Flat Baroque, Delicate Balance, Jesus Joy Of Man´s Desiring ( a piece by Bach... Morse often used to play it live in a beautiful arrangement, not quite true to the original though, as he arranged it from memory.,.. check the "Sects, Dregs And Rock N Roll" DVD )...
Dixie Dregs ( so Morse as well... some are guitar / violin duets, but he also arranged them for solo acoustic guitar, works ): Sleep, Little Kids, T.O. Witcher, Northern Lights, Old World, Go For Baroque, Up In The Air ( Duet with Steve Howe...also check out Morse´s version of Mood For A Day )
Eddie Van Halen - 316 ( pretty basic one ), Neworld
Off the top of my head, maybe I can add some more if you need more

Thanks!

In Desiderata - There is one very fast scale run (0:40). Is he using his fingers or a pick? It doesn't seem possible with alternating fingers.

Since I don´t think that Greg has studied flamenco technique ( which I think would make that run possible ), I guess he did use a pick. But then again, knowing him and his music, nothing´d surprise me =)

Planet Caravan by Sabbath covered by Pantera. Simple but entertaining main riff with a acoustic on acoustic solo that fades into silence. I know and only have heard the Pantera version so I dunno what the differences might be between the Sabbath version and Dimbag's. Great song though, I highly recomend it.

Morse's stuff is all pretty intricate and may take some time but is well worth it.

Casting Shade by Shadows Fall as well as Prelude to Disaster

Acoustic Medley by In Flames

If you are looking for an acoustic solo piece that will get you laid, I suggest you look no further than that one club anthem off of Extreme's Pornograffitti album. SERIOUSLY!

The into to Teslas 'Love Song' has always been one of my favorite acoustic pieces..lots of fun to play and full of very memorable lines.

You mean "More Than Words"? It's not exactly a solo piece, it involves singing too...
