I might as well just start this thread, my last few posts have been in regards to the Beat It solo any way, this keeps it in one place.

OK, I'm pretty pumped about how this little project has been coming along. I still have a few minor things I'm trying to iron out, the one I'm looking at today is the slide at the end. Eric, in the tab you show a slide on the D and then you mention fretting the high D on the G string. Do you recall exactly how you did this? E.g, is it a pickslide with the right hand and then a left hand hammer-on slide on the G string 19th fret?

hey ncook,

you must be crazy dude! ;) I would say that this is close to perfect! Sounds very, very good! Is this a one take recording or did you punch in/out?

Really, donīt be too harsh on your playing. To sound 100% like Eddie you would have to BE Eddie!

Remember it is YOU playing the solo. Youīre just playing the notes and the technical execution of it was really good but the sound and feel of it is (and has to be) you. No need to try to copy Ed 100%.

Also just for info: The "Beat It" solo actually Eddie didnīt play in one take. Itīs two solos that he did in the studio cut together.

So I would say you really nailed the solo!

Now you would have to work on being able to play it live with your guitar hanging low, a cranked up Marshall stack and a bad monitor sound in front of 10.000 screaming fans. If you can still nail it than you can really play it... ;) ī

Cheers
TK

lol, yeah if I dont fill my pants from stage fright. Thanks for the compliments, that was one take. Of course, I did that one take over and over until I hit the important elements halfway decent. Thanks again, I like the input, I've put a lot of hours in it and I still need to polish the second fast part (after the tapping), its a bit off. Plus my phrasing isn't really on, that'll come from repeating it though; its better every time I play.

I agree with the TK!

Don't waste too much time worrying over it, it's all in there!

Time to crack on with the Fire Garden Suite!

Fantastic playing! When I listen to other people's music, I am seeking for the "soul", and I really found it in your recording.

It sounded very "in-tune", and it sounded like you really 'meant it' when playing. I heard all the great details; pinch harmonics, confident/controlled bends, real attack of the notes.

MORE!

EDIT: For how long have you been playing?

Thanks Apple-Joe! I've been playing since the late '80s, but I wasn't really any good for the first 10 years. I still don't think I'm as good as you guys are making me out to be, listen to Eric Vandenburgs Beat It solo (http://www.ibreathemusic.com/article/16) in the iBreathe articles, that's what I call nailing it. However... I have been improving through normal practice routines and metronome work... along with some support from guys on this forum. Thanks again!

Yes, like I said; I'm waiting for more recordings of yours now.

And by the way, I'm reading Eric V.'s article right now. Interesting.

Thanks Eric! The harmonic isn't exact but it screamed so insanely, and the rest of the solo was pretty close, so I went with it.

By the way Eric, did you read the first post of this thread?
