Great!!!
He uses several pentatonic scales..most of them found in Japanese folk music...they're good for melodic playing, and if you want to add an oriental spice to your playing, they're a great place to start...

Also check out Jorge´s articles on exotic scales, and the "Strictly Hirajoshi" thread I once started, as Hirajoshi is one of the scales that Friedman seems to like a lot ( also was used a lot by Jason Becker )

I recently attended a clinic with marty here in singapore. He was all anti-technique and theory which was really dissapointing. The audience were all guitar nuts and obviously hoping for some insight into his use of exotic scales or his picking technique and the like.
The funniest thing was someone asked about what he does for warmups and to avoid RSI and he said he didn't bother, then after half and hour of noodling he refused to play anymore because his wrist was sore!

The same thing happen when he came to M'sia for his clinic. I didn't attend it though but i read about it on music mag. He even appear on our local tv show to give some tips, advises and licks. That was cool!

Hey JailHouseRock, I'm in KL this weekend, perhaps you would be able tell me the good guitar stores to check out? I heard that there are some bargains to be had on instructional materials but not sure where.

Cool. You should check out 'Bentley Music Store' at Jalan Bukit Bintang.
They are by far, the finest music store in the country. Check also 'CK Music' which located at Bukit Bintang area too. What sort of bargain instructional materials do you mean? If books, it's too expensive compared to the price at US/UK (I suppose). Last time I checked Troy Stetina's books, they will cost you up to $120 a book. That's crazy!!!

Thanks JailHouseRock. I'll check out the stores you mention. Someone a while back told me you could get cheaps instructional books in KL but they must have had that wrong. $120 for stetina books is definetly crazy!
