The foot pedals and effect processors will have a better sound too? Im thinking about getting a Fender amp, like a hot rod deville, I like to play a lot of funk, blues, jazz, hendrixy and john mayer kind of stuff. I love the clean sound, but the OD channel sounds bluesy. I also like to play metal, shred, hard rock etc. And I know Fender amps aren't really for that kind of sound, but I have a Pod xt live and a few pedals. Right now I have a extremly crappy amp and I've gotten into a rut because of it. When I play good amps my tone becomes better, I actually feel better and play better. Please answer my question. Thanks.

Hi there,

first of all: no gear-related questions please! Refer to forum rules for further information.

If you choose an amp on which you can dial in a cool basic sound, your stompboxes will be the icing on the cake. If your basic sound is already bad you'll have a hard time to fix it by using stompboxes. I used to own an amp which was too midrangy (sp?) to bring out the brilliant, scorching character of my Tele - there was no use in trying to fix that with stompboxes.
There are several amps out there which provide cool clean AND distorted sounds. Perhaps you wanna check out the Hughes&Kettner Trilogy (3 channels, 6 modes, MIDI) [www.hughesandkettner.com] - serious bang for the buck! Always remember: the most important part of the signal-path is YOU!

Once again: no gear-talk in the future!

Regards!

The mods recommend www.harmony-central.com for gear talk. I personally think www.thegearpage.net is better.

The reason for the no gear talk rule is to keep the IBM forum as close to technique and theory as possible. There are so many forums for gear talk, and this is one of the few for technique.

The guys at the gear page are very, very knowledgeable about gear. While the folks here are just as knowledgable about theory.

To answer you question as short as possible: In theory, yes, having the amp as clean as possible will let the sound your effects were designed to sound like shine through.
