Hey all,

The Christmas Calendar is operational. Be sure to check it out. This was a result of EricV's suggestion in another thread and a LOT of hard work from a couple of us. The URL is:

http://www.365practicesessions.com

Let me know if you have any problems with it and I will try to address them. I was supposed to make this announcement at midnight GMT but I think I missed it.

Let me know if you like it and we may continue it past Christmas!

This is a great idea!!

I'm sure it was "alot of hard work", so

Thanks to all who made the effort to bring this special calendar to realization, your effort is "noteworthy" :D

Btw: I think that including the powertab file is a very valuable addition to learning the exercise.

Thanks again!

Looks good ! This idea could really help to keep things fresh trying something new rather than constantly working on the same stuff.

I'm sure that will be some great contributions. Looking forward to them. Your sweeping technique is brilliant, so that's one thing we need to learn from you.

I just tested it with firefox and netscape -- looks like I need to do some work on the sizing of the days in those browsers...I will get on it. I am also putting together the content for each day over the next week...

But I can certainly put some PTabs together demonstrating how it could/should be done.

...as long as i don't have to MP3 it too:o

Sounded great to me down in Denmark St, though. John doesn't require mp3 (luckily :D ), so you will be ok.

Not sure if its the same warm up for a whole week or not, but it's got the same one for each day. If it is sorry just trying to help. Good stuff guys!

JohnJumper
12-05-2005, 05:45 AM
No problem Nick - we need the help. That is a great observation...The intent, at this time, is to get a new warmup each week. Right now I am VERY slim on warmup exercises submitted (so far only one more in the current library). We need warmups!! Come up with some exercises that are not to technical but not so boring that you want to skip them. I think there are a couple of articles here that talk about the warmup stage of the practice session check them out and send us some new warm ups.

I wanted to emphasize that players need to warm up each and every time they practice but I do not have enough different warmup exercises to place a new one each day. The plan right now is to provide a new one on Thursday which is the official warm up day.

Everyone...send me warmups and I will try to vary them or cycle them more often based on the number of warm ups we get.

Bye the way ... we are up to 109 unique visitors and about 80% of those seem to be returning because they have added us to their favorites!! That is pretty good for a week. It also looks like they are coming from locations other then iBreatheMusic as well. This is great fun! I am glad people are enjoying this!!!

I'll send in some warm ups definitely, I'll try tomorrow cause it's gettin kinda late.

i think keeping the same warmup for a full week is a good idea myself. I dont think its productive if you have to learn a warmup exercise everyday before you can use it as your warmup. Its good to have something your semi-firmilar with and when it comes too firmilar dump it. So once a week sounds good to me.

gersdal

Warm up is important, but there is IMHO no need to have something advanced and there is no need for learning something new for warm up each day. Playing the chords of few good songs can also be a sufficient warm up.

If you would like to contribute e-mail the power-tab and a paragraph or two describing the intent behind the exercise to the following e-mail:

NewExercise@365PracticeSessions.com

Additionally, provide the name you want as the contributor and the url you want that name to link to. That URL could be your web site or it could be your iBreatheMusic profile. We are using the e-mail mechanism so all the exercises are not posted up here - if we post them here then they are not new when you get them on the calendar and that would not be as fun!

Excellent idea, people! Thanks to JohnJumper for his work. I've already started using it, and found some good ideas to pass on to my pupils.

And why wait 'till the first of January, when you can improve your playing today. Go for it! :)

Hey guys...

Great job, wonderful website...

Here's an alt picking exercise I "made up" today, it's nothing new by any means (Hence the quotes :)), but I have never practiced something as fun as this, EVER.

It's a cliched 3 string arp with a 4th added, I don't know what chord that would be, I need to catch up on my theory.

Anyway, there are more shapes within the scale (Should be done all over the neck anyway), but I just settled for those three, you can just play them in order or jump between them for added melodic flavor.

As usual, each note should be played once, twice, three times, and four times.

It's 6:15 AM right now and I didn't sleep yet so I just cooked it up real quick, sorry ^_^, I hope you guys can re-arrange it, I gave one example of each picking pattern instead of writing out the whole thing.

I know it looks simple, but before anything, just try it for yourself, it's really, REALLY fun, if you don't feel like working on alternate picking, this will hopefully put you in the mood.

I love coming up with exercises, it's a great workout for ME, so please comment on this one, I'll try to help out with the other exercises you need, probably take a look at it tomorrow.

I for one loved the series on the Blues!

It would be nice if you could do a Themed month! Maybe a month of Jazz, Country, etc... Maybe there are contributers here that could help with it!

Excellent work all of you.

Hey all... I have been so busy lately that I have barely been able to do anything. I would love to do a theme month but I do not have enough exercises in any one area. Actually, the contributions have stopped coming in the last months and I have been extremly busy with work so I have not had time to come up with lesson plans.

Additionally, my studio has been torn up in the last 6 weeks because I am doubling its squarefeet and having it finished (carpet, wallboard and paint). I just got it finished up this past Thursday and am starting to move the gear back into it. If I can get to it I will try and come up with some ideas...

Additionally, I had a hard disk crash ... :( ...! So I have lost a lot of my exercises that were not on the site yet. I may have backups of some of them but I am not sure...

John, You've been doing a great job. I hope your problems gets sorted out, and that you find the files again. If you'd like to do a theme, I guess that should be mentioned here at IBM well in advance, giving us some time to think up some contributions.

I would still love to see the exercise calender integrated on the IBM site, to be a little closer to our attention and making it easier for others also to run in times where John is busy, but that is not up to me to decide.. :p

Wow, this was/is a great idea! Perfect for my lazy non-disceplined [insert body part]. :)

EDIT: Regardings today warmup by gerhard... wouldn't it be better to start at a higher fret then move it down instead of the other way around? if you do that you start with bigger stretch and end with smaller stretch. Anyway that's what my teacher told me, this way you avoid stretching too far. Just a thought :)

Why, thank you gersdal :D it was a great idea (I think Eric V. suggested it first) and its a great tool. If I get some time over the holidays I might try to extend it. I was thinking of adding a chord to each day - if others have some ideas on how they would like it extended - let me know.
