When you order something ask for the Jazz handbook by Jamey Aebersold 55 pages of history, theory, hints, etc. It's free when you buy something.
The 1 800 number is 1 800-456-1388 tell them your guitar and just starting down your jazz road, they are very helpful.

PaintWarrior:
I started teaching myself jazz tunes a couple years ago. I started out with several Diana Krall albums. She's Canadian. About half of her tunes are covers of jazz standards from many years ago and serve as a good primer on chord arrangements. Her guitar players, primarily Russell Malone, are awesome.
A basic theory book was also helpful to me. I used the jazz edition of Fretboard Roadmaps, a series of books that covers basic theory in several genres of music.
What I like about the standards, besides their having particularly good melodies and clever romantic lyrics, is that they are often written in slow tempos, which are not as daunting for a beginner as fast jazz. Good luck.
