ahoy there!

Ive been spending about 7 hours a day trying to perfect my technique to get ready for Jazz lessons in January, and as a result a lot of the songs that I used to love to play seem a little too easy. Lately the ones Ive really been digging are:
Hendrix-Let the good times roll
SRV-Pride n Joy
Paganini-5th caprice

and thats about all that comes to mind right now. Im looking for some relatively difficult and advanced songs to learn; nothing too metal or anything, no eruption or yngwie please(too used to getting these responses on other boards)...something rockin or jazzy or bluesy, it doesnt matter, I just want a challenge and something FUN to play. Since Im looking for something to push my abilities, it would be nice if the tab were easily available online (and maybe the mp3? who knows). any suggestions appreciated!

Try learning John Mchlaughlin and Al Di Meola's picking parts in their live performance of "Mediterranean Sundance/Rio Ancho"...Try learning some of Holdsworth's legato lines from "Tony William's Lifetime....Believe It"..also, maybe try "Lenny" or "Little Wing" by Stevie Ray Vaughan...1 more...."Tender Surrender" by Steve Vai...but make sure you eat your Shreddies for breakfast... :D

Try some horn-oriented tunes, from guys like Coltrane or Parker. A lot of musicians will tell you that it brings a certain difference to your playing than just studying other guitar players. Horn players phrase differently (they have to breathe, apparently...) and so your sound changes as well.

You were asking for transcriptions, and Guitar One magazine usually has either a horn player tune or a jazz guitar player tune (Joe Pass, John Mc., Mike Stern) transcribed in the magazine. Those can be helpful since they are tabbed...this month is a Monk/Coltrane tune.

Of course, a little Steve Morse is always good for your playing, since it can be so varied, from chicken' pickin' to fusion to rock...

Cliffs of Dover by Eric Johnson.
Its fun to play, i think its funner than listening to it.
You should be able to nail it, don't worry about the intro part, thats just crazy
