I just rediscovered part III (take a look at it!) and I think now it's time for part IV!
I was watching a guns'n roses concert yesterday and slash played a cool lick during knockin' on heavens door. It' a good left hand exercise as well.
I hope this thread ain't never die and will be as cool as part III, I'm looking forward to your licks!

Wow! I'm just totally overwhelmed, this thread is exploding! :D
Anyway thanks Gersdal for the great link!
Here is a hirajoshi lick I often play, of course you can extend it or modifie it, depending on the situation. I love that scale!

I'm downloading the tabs now. I'll have a look at them.

Typical that I really want to play guitar now, as my guitar got only 2 strings at the moment. Hell, I'll watch the tabs and maybe I can apply it for two strings. Maybe there are two strings used in the licks too? I'll have to find out.

Hey guys, now that Padawan brought this up you might wanna check out the old Licks runs n riffs threads, we got pretty awesome stuff in there to keep you working for ages!

Hereīs an Bmaj/Cmaj run I came up with lately incorporating various techniques from sweeping to sliding, pull offs and alternate picking.

Check out the picking pattern for the 3nps decending part which is very important!

Of course you can transpose this to any other key (as long as you got enough frets... ;) )

I found this is also a very good warm up exercise cause it uses many different techniques and a good strech for the fretting hand.

Thank you and have fun!

Just came across this thread (I know its over a year old, but what the heck; I just wanna participate! :p )

So, hereīs a little exercise I made up by myself a few weeks ago to practice

a.)alternate picking

b.) string skipping

c.) arpeggios

d.) theory
1.the premise was to create a melody that modulates through 3 different keys and has to come back to the first key at the end - without sounding bad. And i think i pulled it off (alltough the musical value of the piece is debatable)

2. I also used secondary dominants in the bridge, which gives it a slightly classical sound IMHO.

I hope you enjoy it, let me know what you think.

ALEX :)

PS: Dont worry about the title, its neither a calypso nor an etude! :) I just named it that way because the inspiration at the beginning came from people like Les Baxter or Martin Denny.

That was by far the longest lick of them all :D
Thanks for keeping my thread alive, hopefully other people will post their licks, too.
I just relistened to Thorsten's major Pentatonic lick, I'm off practising

Ok, so today I decided to spend more time on my own licks instead of just scale practising, and what happened? I came up with this killer Pentaphrygianlick, check it out, I'm proud of that one!

Haha, ok obviously no one cares about my licks, but here's another one. It's starts off with a killer hirajoshi scale run and goes into a killer chinese sounding pentatonic lick. Enjoy!
