Does anyone have some nice comping patterns? That's one of my weakest skills (considering that I come from a rock/blues background I guess it's common... I am not used to the sporadic nature of a lot of bebop tunes) I have a good grasp on Freddy Greene's style (it gets tough when there are lots of chords per measure but I can do it) it's the little chord stabs on certain beats of certain measures that get me... I am totally lost really lol.

I have tried playing chords on the different subdivisions of the beat, the and of 2, and the and of 4 etc but it sounds mechanical... not natural and flowing

So ANYTHING would help. Thanks a lot.

try writting out every possible combination of splitting up a bar of 4/4 into 8th notes and just string a few of those together over a progression and loop them. Then write out every combination of splitting up a beat into 16th notes, slow the tempo down and add those in.

Transcribe some rhythm.

Stopping it from sounding mechanical is what you get after you do it for hours on end...it just takes time to let the groove sink in.

Will do... I guess I just need to continue working at it.

Thanks for the tip.
