Is there a reason this sounds like it resolves on E or is this just in my head?

Minor -
Lydian -
Mixolydian b9/b6 (or Harmonic Minor)
Dorian -

Phrygian -
So, Penta/blues would go on the same scale for this thread.
So how would you organize them? Remember, from Most Used to Less Used.

A few of my method books include specific canned patterns for arpeggios (patterns where the 1-3-5, etc come sequentially), and I've heard some people on this forum talk about them recently. I started learning them.

I talked to my guitar teacher about them today, trying to figure out things I should be focusing on to get better at solos. He said he doesn't practice them specifically, or really seek to use them in his music.

I'm just a little curious how useful the guitar community here sees the practice of arpeggios. Does the everyday non-shredder guitarist use these patterns much? How much utility have you found in practicing them (or do you)? What am I missing if I choose to focus on other things, and neglect to practice these?

(I guess a little background for me, I like playing rock, church music, and am trying to learn jazz).

Thanks.

I must be doing something wrong. Here are two fairly recent videos of my playing that have some 'fast' picking stuff in them(a funk songs, and a metal song in 7/4). What can I do to fix or better my playing? What or how can I practice to improve?
My routine consists of single string picking(16ths and sextuplets)at various tempos, the Paul Gilbert lick at various tempos, sequences and scales, and some various exercises(steve morse stuff, licks from songs like Trilogy Suite, Sacrified, Technical difficulties). I just wanna know what I can do make my practice more effective and get results...Thanks guys!!!

I know my cm scale ill across the neck also c minor pentatonic and Im landing on the root note in chord changes (if that makes sense).
I am bored already. It seems like its not fresh. Its predictable. I wrote out the scale and the chords and I tried playing some cm7 and cm11 chords during my soloing. Maybe my phrasing is not great, and I notice it.
What can I do to spice it up?
Its a slow backing, I believe its 3/4

Thanks

any suggestions would be great

I am fascinated with the harmonic possibilities available when playing jazz guitar. However, I simply can't get excited by the most of the jazz guitar players I hear, even ones who are considered good. Common jazz sounds too meandering and unfocused to me i.e. "easy listening" which doesn't float my boat.
I find that all my personal renditions of jazz songs have a very intense, heavy feel to it which is contrary to what is expected of most jazz guitarists and how they traditionally play. It's also hard for me to improvise because I'm not happy playing just "anything", I have to plan ahead exactly how to play each chord and find the perfect voice leading that satisfies me. Perhaps I'm too meticulous about it.
I've tried playing in a big band and they always expect me to play the "3rd and 7th" and play so lightly that I can't even hear myself. It's not expressive enough, and tends to sound too predictable. I tend to put voice leading ahead of always playing the 3rd and the 7th, sometimes using the fifth or the root, or doubling unconventional notes.
My point is, jazz guitar is so open-ended that it shouldn't be pigeonholed into always playing the same role.
We should strive to innovate and push jazz guitar forward, because there is so much latent harmonic power that we can experiment with. I love jazz but prefer to play in my own inventive way, unlike other jazz guitarists that I've heard.

after downloading synthesia i was eager to get better at keyboarding and so i upgraded to the learning pack, i started working on reading music and i was doing some thinking, technology has changed alot of things, thats just the way things are in this world, and i was doing some thinking, (before i continue i would like to make it very clear that i am NOT a some STUPID teenager who wants to become a good musician but doesn't want to learn to read sheet music, i understand that this whole idea of 'whats the point of reading music' makes alot of experienced/proffeshinal musicians angry, but please bear with me im just trying to think outside the box here...) languages evolve, things change, and in my experience of a musician i wonder if we could all 'survive', if you will, as musicians who dont read music...or rely on reading less becuase i feel there are other methods of learning songs...which is what we mainly do as musicians... i mean think about it, there are so many other ways of learning how to play songs, guitar tabs combined with listening to songs (listening to songs to get the rythems right), synthesia for keyboarding (using the falling notes method), and for other instruments just figuring out songs by ear, which is completly possible or use other methods of learning insturments like horn tabs http://www.horntabs.net/h/ i guess the big question im trying to get across to you all is: Do you or do u not think that we could (if you are planning to, and if you aren't just bear with the question please...) get a degree, any kind, phd or bachalor, in music without relying on reading music as much as we do now in music school? and still come across as as good as a musician as one who reads music just like the present musician student...
