Counting/Playing Complex Rhythms with Metronome

Hey everyone, I just have a quick question...

I'm currently working with some more complex rhythms that involve dotted sixteenth notes and even 32nd notes. My problem is when I try to work them out with my metronome its kind of hard to feel the groove and get the hang of things due to the notes not falling on the clicks and there being a high tempo etc. Are there any methods to count such rhythms effectively and feel the divisions better with the metronome? Any help is much appreciated.

Slow them down.
Make the dotted 16ths into dotted 8ths, then feel it in half-time.
Get comfortable like that, and steadily speed up.
