Does poor harmonizing skill means poor ears?

I recently try to harmonize (by singing) simple songs by
the thirds interval, and I find great difficulty in doing so.

Singing the harmonizing parts alone is still ok but when mixed
with the melody, I get all confused.

I have friends who don't really play any instrument but
can harmonize a lot better spontaneously.

Does poor harmonizing skill means my pitch sense is poor?
or poor ears?

Neither. You just need more practice. Famous musicians didn't get great musical ability overnight, it took time, and a burning dedication to succeed. If you have that, then you'll get there in time.

Also, you might not always be harmonizing on the third as well. Harmonization depends on the context of the melody against the chords it's built upon.

If you access to a keyboard/piano or guitar. Play some arps. C - E - G.

Then Play C itself and sing E and G while sustaining C.
Also practice singing intervals as well.

If you like musicals, West Side Story is a great muscial to learn intervals. Most of the songs all start out with different intervals. Example:

Maria, I just kissed a girl named Maria.

The syllable Ma to Ri is a augmented fourth just like the beginning to The Simpons. Syllables "The" to "Simp" is an augmented fourth interval.

Another song in the musical is called "Somewhere". The first words to the song go "There's a place for us". From the word "There's" to "A" is a minor seventh interval.

The first two notes in the Score to "Star Wars" is a perfect fith.
First two notes in the wedding march is a perfect fourth.

Yes some people are born with being able to sing harmony. On the other end of the scale, I know people who actually have a hard time singing the melody. They for some reason, have a natural tendency to go above or below the melody.

Just practice. Some of the best songs IMO to learn to sing harmony to are your old Hyms, Amazing Grace, Old-Rugged Cross, Power in the Blood, etc...
