    What is Shredding?

    Hi,

I have heard the term 'Shredding' about a trillion times, but what does the term actually mean. I have seen loads of lessons on Shredding, but none clearly describe what it actually means!

This may sound like a stupid question, but I really don't know!

    Ok, mister 'advanced guitar player'

The term shredding is really undeterminable, cuz everyone has got their own opinions. You don't go to a music shop and look for the shredding category.

The term shredding is like a mutual agreement between guitarists. To put it simply, shredding is when a phrase is being played above a certain speed level.

For begginers, shredding is playing insanely fast.

For me, shredding means that the phrase is being played like a fluid stream of notes (including the pick-hitting-strings noise) instead of a note at a time.
Sometimes it can sound good, other times it's pure crap.

Check Michael Angelo and Rusty Cooley for crap shred, and check out Steve Vai for better shredding (he can at least keep it under control, while the others just wank and wank)

Sorry for abusing the english language, and remember it's only my own opinion.

Relax dude, you just said in that other post that you were advanced, and then you asked what shredding was, so i said it just to be sarcastic. It's malicious, sorry.

Anyway that is quite impressing in under a year.

Some advice, if i may. And this is just my humble opinion.
I think everyone is too concerned about learning chord shapes. One should rather study the theory behind them, and construct them oneself, because people tend to get stuck in a pattern learning shapes an stuff.

I wasn't offened by your comments, and I found your description of Shredding quite useful (apart from the swearing).

I know a lot of Chord Shapes, but I have a method of learning them,:

    1. Learn the Construction of the Chord
    2. Learn How To Use The Chord
    3. Learn the Shapes
    4. Write a Chord Progression using the newly learnt Chord
    5. Encoperate in to Playing

So you can see I don't just learn Shapes for the sake of it, I do learn to use them first, oh yeah I forgot to mention I know Suspended 2nds and 4ths too!

    Yes!!!

    I am Brilliant!!!

But then again, that does raise the question, is there pressure being brilliant?

Well, no, when you are as brilliant as me, there is no pressure, I know exactly where I am going, and my plans for World Domination are still on track.
