metal progressions

On my last post i had questions about progressions and on this post i am still a bit confused on why sum notes sound gd together and others sound terrible.

For instance: Metallicas One

A--2------2

there are plenty more but i am in a rush. any reason why they sound gd i know it has something to do with being minor. Has anyone got any links or ideas that may help me develop an understanding better. Thanx joe

In metal music most things tend to be minor. In more extreme metal such as death metal and often times black metal they also use the Diminished scale as well, along with the Harmonic Minor and Phrygian Dominant. Most often they will tend to have E be the scale (actually whatever tuning there in, the root note will be the open note on the 6th string). In some more progresive (death/black)metal bands they also use some exotic scales. For example the Persian Scale is used in some of Karl Sanders guitar work (guitarist for Nile).
