Buddy Guy & Robert Cray Show
Just got back from my first-time seeing Robert Cray Band and Buddy Guy live. Wow, what a show. While Robert Cray was certainly spectacular with some of the more imaginative contemporary blues originals I've heard, Buddy's opening two acoustic numbers were energizing, to say the least.
If you like blues and have not seen Buddy Guy, I certainly recommend the effort. The guy on keys tonight was, I think, a guy named Meyers. In any case--he alone was worth the ticket price. Man, what a show. Does anyone know who this guy most likely is? I can't find any details regarding who Buddy is currently touring with and I didn't see any handouts at the venue.

Aw man, you're lucky. I'd love to see Buddy Guy. I live on the edge of the earth, and traditionally nobody big performs here. However, a new arena was built here in the past year, and we finally have been getting some bigger names. I don't know much of Robert Cray's stuff, but of course he certainly is held in high regard in Blues circles. I do have the Showdown CD he did with Albert Collins and Johnny Copeland, but its hard to tell who's doing what on that one.
I don't know who Guy is using for keys on his tour. I have seen him on TV with Tony Z (a large man) on keys, and Tony Z plays the keys very awesomely, and with quite a bit of fire. Edit: Johnny Copeland (not Coleman)

This guy appeared much younger, and much bigger. He also didn't play a B3 of any kind and the sound was all piano--no organ. He definitely 'had the fire', though! Maybe I'll hang out around keyboard.com and do a little research.

I've seen those guys too. Buddy is WAY OUT THERE!! Did he finish any songs or just ramble through a medley of tunes? He really puts on a show and makes use of his wireless!
Robert Cray is great, and Eric Clapton is a huge fan of Robert... if that tells you anything! I have all but the latest Robert Cray CDs and they're great. Strong Persuader is probably the most popular, but I like them all. He grew up about 15 minutes from my house.

During his solo-acoustic 'set' he completed two tunes. During the rest of the show with the band, while I was there, he did ~3 jam sort of things and yes, there was some serious rambling. The guy is hilarious--even asking the audience a couple of times to stop clapping (they were seldom on the beat) in a good-hearted way.
