UKRuss Guitar Mix Series - #1 Sunshine Glide

Something a little new. I have put together some mixes and hope you enjoy them. Something to stick on your Ipod and get down to the beach while the sun shines.

As it's been so nice weather wise here in the UK I thought I'd start with something mellow.

This mix is called Sunshine Glide, d/l from here:

Sunshine Glide

Track Listing:

1. Steve Vai - Alien Water Kiss

2. Buckethead - Watching The Boats With My Dad

3. Joe Satriani - Flying in a Blue Dream

4. Brett Garsed - Big Sky

5. Sven Stichter - Orpheus & Eurydike (IBM's Phantom on guitar)

6. Joe Satriani - Clouds Race Across the Sky

7. Marcel Coenen - The Wet Season

8. Eric Vandenberg - You Complete Me (IBM's EricV on guitar)

9. Code of Perfection - Underneath a Blue Kiss (IBM's Thorsten Koehne on guitar)

Enjoy!

By all means give me some feedback and let me know what you'd like to hear, if it's obscure then please PM me.

or e-mail me UKRuss@mac.com

Cool.

Would be nice if you listed how long each song is though.

Even more nice if you added comments to each song, why did you pick just that one, what do you like about it?

I would do the length thing with a house mix, but I think people know their guitar tracks well enough to hear the transitions.

As for each track I can give it a go:

Alien Water Kiss is just one of those old schooll Vai tracks where he was really into his effects and uses them to great effect in this track, it's somehow ethereal and lifting.

Contrasted into Buckethead's Watching etc., where he really just leaves some bveautiful spaces between some lovely chords in an acoustic style.

You really can imagine sitting and watching those boats, nice sunny day and the ocean gleaming, wind blowing. beautiful timing, beautiful playing.

Satch's FIABD, prolly needs no introduction. Just a beautiful Lydian track that really IMO defines the use of Lydian and it's dreamy contexts in a modern rock sense. Great feedback notes which I looped up for effect in the intro. My favourite tone of his too, so sharp and clear.

Garsed's Big Sky, the funky bass solo is awesome followed by the latino style drums and the funky lines he uses at the end are just so summery, he really is a master of fusion and uses his hybrid picking technique to full effect.

Svens' track is a work in progress, but I caught it on his myspace page and it is a beautiful progression, can't wait to hear the finished article! I find his pciking here is so precise and the chords are perfect for the mood. Maybe some kind of alternative tuning here? I dunno.

The tech style drums of Svens track led me nicely to Satch's Clouds Race and the transition was smooth.

Marcel plays top quality guitar and The Wet Season really defines his technique. I love this track.

Eric V's You Complete me has the most excellent executed arp passage towards the latter hal;f of the track with again some beautiful chord choice. One of my fav Eric V tracks, I stil can't play those arps...

And finishing off wit COPs ballad, there are other ballads on the album but this one stands out as something really different to the rest of what's happening again, a real technician TK Rocks hard, but here he shows his other side.

Awww thanks man, I am glad you like that part. I guess I should "write" my solos more often instead of improvising them and keeping the best bits. And thanks for putting the song in there, I told you how much I like the mix, and I feel like in very good company there. Can't wait to hear more of those remixes =)
