struming patters

can anyone offer some tips on how to work out the strumming pattern of a song.i always have trouble with this. why cant they include it in the music score?

You need to be able to count and use some method of notation to make notes about the rhythm. Good Tab Software (Powertab etc...) gives you musical and Tab notation.
