chromatic notes- jazzy enough?

hi guys

I recently watched jazz guitar lesson on chromatic tones on youtube. I also listened to cd from my jazz guitar coursebook because I wondered what approach tones and neighbouring tones sound like. Well, they definitely sound more jazzy when compared to improvising with just a major scale but I have to say that on my cd there are many examples of using chromatic tones together with chord tones but the whole thing doesn't sound jazzy enough for me. Well, maybe the whole thing depends on a player . Maybe some players are more skilled at using chromatic tones when compared to other players. What do you think?

I forgot to add that I only listened to major scale and chromatic notes played around chord tones, root, third, fifth, seventh e.t.c

maybe chromatic tones sound better when played on other scales like dorian , phrygian, lydian e.t.c. Is it common for jazz guitar players to play chromatic notes on notes I mentioned above?

any comments will be highly appreciated
