A Pianist Bids "Bonjour"
Hello everyone, my "alias" is Wonderland. You can call me Wonder though, if you'd like. I first stumbled across this forum in a google search looking for a community of musicians who would be willing to help out others. This was the first result and, well, the rest is history.
I am a beginning pianist, I only started playing this past December, and am completely self taught... Well save for helpful hints from friends and the like. I own an extremely cheap keyboard from Costco, but we all have to start somewhere. The reson I chose "Pianist" over "Keyboardist" is because I'm not into making the piano sound like something it's not. I merely bought a keyboard because I have no room in my house for any form of a piano. Besides, if I didn't like piano, it's not so much of a loss when you only have a keyboard. I began my "musical adventure" playing guitar (which, I'll be honest, I did not like. At all.) however my brother picked it up soon after and won't put the instrument down now . After that, I began to explore piano and really fell into admiration. Since the day I got it, I have loved my keyboard. However, I'm not naturally "musically gifted" (like... Picking things out by ear is extremely difficult if not impossible) so everything I know is built by hard work. My serious fault, however, is theory. I practice with it as much as I can, but the only song book I own is a Coldplay one and their melodies are... Very strange, to say the least. Anyway, I was hoping to use this forum as a way to expand my knowledge on theory, but also to keep inspired and meet other musicians. I hope you all enjoy me and I enjoy you .

Welcome, always use another piano player. Theory on the keyboard is easy to "see" ask away, someone will help.
I play mostly chord piano and accompany my vocals using the same "basic system" a rhythm guitarist uses when comping. If that looks like something you would like to explore - ask away. Last edited by Malcolm; 06-07-2010 at 12:34 PM. |

Oh boy! A fellow pianist in a world of guitarists
. If I had anything of a good voice, I would play some rhythm piano myself, but I'm more of a classical pianist. I know a couple of rhythm songs (Clocks and The Scientist by Coldplay), but nothing too advanced. Thank you for the welcome!
