Engl Powerball

hi everybody, I'm thinking about getting an Engl Powerball. Basically its a lot of money for me and i need as many outside opinions as possible. I'm trying to locate one at the moment in the UK to try out as I have tried out a 5150 which for me is the main alternative. I'd like to hear from people who have had experience with Engls ie reliability and customer service. Also, price-wise, the lowest I have seen the head for is 965pounds. Is this about right? I am actually losing sleep over this decision (partly at the thought of spending well over a thousand pounds!) and I would appreciate any input! BTW, i play mainly metal: Metallica, In Flames, Arch Enemy, Killswitch Engage, Avenged Sevenfold etc so you can probably imagine the kind of sound I am looking for!

I really like the Powerball...I tried it a while back and it went from Fender type clean all the way up to Rectifier brutal and everything in between. It had more drive then most of the other amps I've tried out. I usually use a DS1 in front of amps for extra boost but I didn't need one with the Engl. Also, because of the seperate tone stacks you can dial in a different clean and drive sound. You can do that on a 5150II, but the standard 5150 only has a single tone stack. The Engls have great tone as well. I've not used the 5150 all that much but thought it sounded OK (very Eddie...which is what it's supposed to do I guess).

One other advantage of the Powercall is that it has a built in noise reduction unit as well so you can say goodbye to hum when you're not playing (it works as well...I had a powerball head cranked in a demo room a while back and when I stopped playing it was totally silent. Pretty amazing...)...

Best price I've seen is £965 as well...Theya re distributed by Synergy Distribution. They should be alble to tell you if there is a retailer in your area. The only place I know of in London is the Wembley Guitar Centre.

Btw, I promise I'm not an Engl rep!!!

thanks, that is pretty much what i wanted to hear! Im waiting on a reply from synergy as we speak. I think there is something about its character and difference from the norm that is enticing me! Not exactly rational thinking with this amount of money but they say music is from the heart or something!

No worries about the opinion. Just remember to plug and and give it a whirl for an hour or so with your favorite gtr before you hand your hard earned cash over to make sure you like it. It might seem pricey but if you think about it you'll be getting a 4 channel head with enough balls to kick a Dual Rectifier in the *** (an amp which costs twice as much), which'll give more tone options then most amps on the planet, and which has killer tone comparable to amps 2 or 3 times more expensive...so it is a pretty good amp for that price I've been thinking about buying one for a while but am waiting for Peavey's new George Lynch amp to be released first...
