Unhappy Fingering

I am beginning to play the piano. my question is how do I know the fingering? For example: If I wanted to play a G scale or A C scale. What fingers would I started off with and why? And what would be the pattern?

Are you taking lessons? Its easier if someone sits down with you and shows you.

Anyway, the fingering for a GMajor Scale in the Right hand is:
1 2 3 1 2 3 4 5
and than backwards back down (5 4 3 2 1 3 2 1).
The Left Hand is 5 4 3 2 1 3 2 1 going up and 1 2 3 1 2 3 4 5 going down (opposite the right hand).

If you don't know or can't figure it out, your fingers are numbered 1-5 (1 being your Thumb and 5 your Pinky.

Its the same thing for C, D, E, G, A and B. F is different.

You use that fingering because...well...its the only way you can play scales up and down the piano. No other fingering fits really.

Interesting, SostenutQ. That's the kind of information I'm after. Which fingers goes where, ideally. It's the same as reading about which finger goes where for fingerpicking guitar. No problem learning such material over the internet.

Don't confuse the finger numbers since you play guitar. 1 is now your thumb not your index finger.
