What are your favorite piano pieces?
Hi everyone, I'd love to know what kind of piano pieces people around here enjoy. It can be any style but if anyone knows some nice classical pieces I'm all ear. I like a lot of stuff by Chopin and Beethoven, some Debussy as well. Since I'm just starting listening and playing piano pieces I'm a bit naive so to speak

"The Well Tempered Clavier" is a good place to start. I have a load of piano concertos and stuff like that, but Bach´s stuff has always fascinated the most ( I guess some classical-music-specialists might cringe now and call me ignorant cuz I won´t mention more in this post =) )

I don't know many classical piano pieces except for the very famous ones. Some of them really touched me though. I love the "revolution etude" and "nocturne in E" by Chopin. Then I like the desperate "moonlight sonata" Beethoven wrote when he was already deaf I think.
Some pieces of Bach's well tempered clavier are great and not to forget Debussy's "claire de lune", goosebumps guaranty!

Ravel: Menuet Antique, Pavane Pour Une Infante Defunte, Mouvement De Menuet, Jeux D'Eau, Moderne. I think there is a double-CD sort of 'best of' solo piano works by Ravel that I have that has all those.

Well it ain't classical but there is some awesome piano on the soundtrack to the Charlie Brown Christmas Special, done by the Vince Guaraldi Trio.

I also like the "moonlight sonata." It has always been one of my favorite peices to listen to and even play. It was probably one of the first songs that had any emotional impact on me.

I always like Bruce Hornsby, especially "The Way it is." Also Beethoven, of course. My classical collection needs some dusting off! Haven't listened to it for awhile.
I am a big fan of Tori Amos, as well as Sarah McLaclan. |
